Glee Look on a Budget: Rachel Berry's Bridesmaids in Merona for Target

If you read here you know that I don't love everything that Target produces for fashion.   But every now and then, they produce a winner in their Merona for Target line. Merona has really stepped up their line since designer Isaac Mizrahi left Target shelves.  To me, this dress is reminiscent of some of the old Issac Target sheath dresses. If you watch the hit show Glee , then you may have noticed the cool dresses on Rachel Berry's bridesmaids. The bright fuschia dresses were from Target's Merona line and cost about $25.00.

The dress is Merona's Side Tab Ponte dress and is available only on Target.com, although you might glimpse it in store if someone returns it.  One thing I like about the style of this dress is the empire waist and the side tab buttons will draw attention to the waist, the smallest part of anyone's body.  As you can see from the Glee photo above, the dress looks good on a variety of shapes and sizes.  Fuschia was literally one of the hottest colors on the runway at New York Fashion Week, appearing in the Milly show and in the Michael Kors spring line.  The color is always a staple in designer resort collections, so it's nice to see it in a lower priced dress line.

Earlier this week, Lou Eyrich, the Glee Costumer Designer was  given the Career Achievement in Television Award at the Costume Designer Guild Awards.  Jane Lynch praised Eyrich for having a great eye for selecting garments for the  Glee characters. This Target dress is a good example of this.

New Banana Republic ‘Mad Men’ collection to Launch March 1

Some of you will remember that last August, Banana Republic launched their limited edition MadMen collection.  Well, stay tuned, coming March 1, "MadMen" collection part deux is coming to your local Banana Republic store and online. “Mad Men” Costume Designer Janie Bryant is the creative force behind this one.  With Spring in mind, the inspiration for this collection is the country club scenes in the “Mad Men” series.  The picture above is an updated version of the Bette dress from the last collection, in a nice spring pink.  The collection features more than 40 pieces of apparel and jewelry for men and women. Choosing Skirts For The Young Girl

Skirts are important to young women. Because the skirt can make look beautiful and feminine. Skirts can be an option if you feel bored wearing a skirt.

Indeed, not all models are suitable for our body skirt. Our bodies are very different shape, so it is very important for us to choose the form of a skirt that is suitable for our use. First we need to better recognize our body shape.

1. Petite women

Suitable use: A skirt that will not fit the body of your small body frame. Choose a skirt that falls above the knee. Pleated skirt combined with platform shoes will give you the impression of height and body shape.

Avoid: Flouncy skirts or skirts that use a lot of material. Skirt of this type will be covering your curves.

4. Women built like Fruit Pears (Having large hips)

Matches: A-line skirt that falls just above the knee. This skirt will hide your butt and thighs are great. Use dark colors to streamline.

Avoid: tight skirt because it will make people focus only see your big hips.

5. Women built like Apples

Suitable for: Skirt made from chiffon or silk to relieve the body silhouette. Material that is easy to move or light will help you hide the tummy and upper body balance.

Avoid: Skirt with pockets or skirts with folds at the waist. Avoid straight skirts, because your body will look unbalanced, top-heavy.

6. Women Who Have Many grooves

Matches: pencil skirts in solid colors will add to the sleekness of your body shape. Try not to wear skirts that are too tight.

Avoid: Skirts that fall and absolute moves, and use a lot of material will increase the volume on your body shape.

7. Women Have Short Legs

Matches: Skirts above the knee to lengthen your legs. Many ways to lengthen the leg like using a mini skirt and black stockings.

Avoid: Skirt along the calf because it will make you shorter.

8. Long Legged Woman

Suitable: long skirt with a material that fell and thin, or short skirts because you have beautiful legs to show off.

Yves Saint Laurent - A Fashion Legend

Yves Saint-Laurent was born in Algeria in 1936. His passion for art, fabrics and catwalks starts very early in his life. Instead of playing football or doing the usual things kids of his age did, he started practicing with fabrics and materials and needles.

In 1953, after taking part as a contest for young designers, he met Michel de Brunhoff, the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine (Paris edition). For his first great breakthrough Yves had to wait until later that year at another fashion contest (that Yves won) where he met again de Brunhoff.

Yves showed some him some of his sketches, very similar other that de Brunhoff had seen a the same day in Christian Dior's office. Had the young promising designer found the way to steal other Christian Dior's work and put his name under it? That was not possible, as de Brunhoff knew for a fact that Dior has created those sketches the very same morning. It was just a fortunate coincidence that simply meant that the two, Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior had to meet. Needless to say that Yves started to work in Dior's maison immediately.

That was year 1953, five years later, when Dior died suddenly of heart attack, he had already chosen Yves as his successor.

His first collection in 1958 was an international success, but the dream was interrupted when he was called to serve in the Army during the Algerian War of Independence. Dior's maison fired him almost immediately. The experience in the army didn't last long, but started the most difficult period in Yves Saint Laurent's life that brought him in a mental institution and a drug addiction. He got out of the hospital in 1960 (but the drug addiction will stay with him for the rest of his life) and started his own fashion company,

The rest, as they say is history. YSL's collections gained a growing popularity, also for the controversy they often raised and became a living legend in the world of fashion and design. He was the first in fashion in many things, but perhaps the he is most remembered for having launched the first ready-to-wear collection in 1966.

In 1989 the YLS group was listed in the stock market, and was sold in 1994 to pharmaceuticals company Sanofi, and then to the Italian fashion company Gucci in 1999. Yves Saint Laurent remained as high fashion designer, but he soon realized that it was time to leave the world of fashion, which he did in 2002.

He died of a brain tumor in his house in Paris on 1 June 2008.

The original fashion house no longer exists, but the brand, owned by Gucci, and all its products are still alive.

Soucha, for example, is a graduate of the Academia Della Moda in Florence, Italy, is the owner of Soucha Couture which is one of the most popular Italian fashion institutions.

Arab stars and celebrities liked his innovative fashions and he began to design for them. With the confidence of youth, he created his new fashion brand and became famous. At present, he runs two small stores in Cairo. Many people in Egypt would be familiar with Soucha Fashion. Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia are starting to see an influx of Soucha Fashion and it expands its selling base. The company plans to enhance the offerings in its stores to cover more casual apparel and apparel accessories than it has in the past.

In order to succeed a designer must work hard and have a natural artistic ability and sense of style. It is of no doubt that these designers keep improving with each collection. The fashion world has shown an endless appreciation of these items, and constantly gives us new variations on this theme. Because designs take on different creations and inspiration, no one design is like the other.
